As a requirement in Dr. Lauren Cavanaugh’s PED 311/511 – Elementary and Movement Activities course, students in the Physical and Health Education Teacher Education (PHETE) program are asked to submit a video to the Western Zone New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYSAHPERD) Get Moving NY Contest. PHETE majors placed 2nd and 3rd in this State-wide competition and this is the second consecutive year that PHETE majors from Canisius College have received top honors. Contestants prepare a five-minute video, which presents various ways to lead or encourage a physically active lifestyle.
This year’s 2nd and 3rd place winners are: Eric Gold, Cassidy Ryan, J.P. Stevenson, Adam Wolfley (2nd place), Logan Aikins, Travis Denman, Matt Francisco, Chris Juergens and John Occhiuto (3rd place). Winners were awarded $250 and $100 worth of Flaghouse equipment to donate to a school physical education program of their choice.
