The Department of Kinesiology hosted the Western Zone New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance’s (AHPERD) annual conference for the 6th consecutive year on Monday, March 7 at the Koessler Athletic Center. More than 100 physical and health educators from the Western New York area were in attendance.
Students from the college’s Physical and Health Education Teacher Education (PHETE) presented two sessions entitled Incorporating Common Core in an Elementary Basketball Unit and Games and Activities with an Omnikin Ball.
Additional presenters included the Horizon Health Services, United States Tennis Association, US Games, and other local health and physical education professionals. In addition, contestants for the Western Zone “Get Moving NY” video contest were announced. The Canisius College PHETE program has three of seven applicants entered in the contest.
