Canisius CEO Wins Best Chapter Award at 2014 National Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization Conference and Competition

For the sixth time in seven years, the Canisius College chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) won a Best Chapter Award at the 2014 CEO Annual National Conference that took place in Orlando, FL from October 30- November 1, 2014.

The chapter received the CEO Best Chapter Award in the “Best Fundraising Idea/Event” category. Canisius CEO previously won Best Chapter Awards in 2008-2011 and in 2013. Chapter President Connor Neil ‘16, a dual major in entrepreneurship and management and the chapter’s faculty advisor Dr. Ji-Hee Kim led the chapter as it enhanced its national reputation as one of the nation’s premier CEO chapters. Chapters from more than 400 college and universities attended and competed at the conference.

Twelve Canisius students attended the conference, under the guidance of Dr. Kim, who has also served as the project director for Coleman Faculty Fellowships, since 2010. Canisius CEO students and faculty were also extensively involved in the conference program. They led two panels at the national conference: Nobel Daniel ’15, entrepreneurship major, and Dr. Kim led a session on “Entrepreneurial Events on Campus” and Christopher Wier ’15, entrepreneurship major and Dr. Kim led “Starting a Chapter 101”. Marissa Verdi ’15, environmental science major and winner of the 2014 Empire Creativity Competition at Canisius College, participated in the national elevator pitch competition that included champions from more than 80 campuses from North America. Dr. Kim also served as chair for sessions on faculty development and on building a comprehensive entrepreneurship education curriculum.

The Canisius CEO chapter was established in January 2007 by Ji-Hee Kim, PhD. CEO informs, supports and inspires Canisius College students to be entrepreneurial and seek opportunities for creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial leadership and enterprise creation throughout their lives. Canisius CEO offers student members the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial leadership, professional communication skills, successful team building and team-work skills, and knowledge in entrepreneurship by creating, designing, planning, leading, organizing, and implementing educational outreach and experiential entrepreneurship projects.

CEO (Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization) is a global, non-profit organization, which offers students networking opportunities and serves as an informational resource for prospective entrepreneurs.

The Canisius CEO is generously supported by the businessmen and women of the Canisius’ “Entrepreneurs on Campus.” The CEO chapter has prospered thanks to the ongoing support of the Department of Management, the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, the Canisius College administration, the Buffalo community, and many highly engaged Canisius students.
