Canisius College Chorale to Perform Tonight in SS. Peter and Paul Church

The Canisius College Chorale, under the direction of Frank Scinta, will continue its 2014 “Sacred Spaces” concert series with a program today, Monday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church, 5480 Main Street in Williamsville, NY.

The concert will feature works by Hogan, Mendelssohn, Buxtehude, Dawson, Ticheli and others. Admission is free.

“Sacred Spaces” stems from an idea the choir proposed nine years ago to feature its music in some of Western New York’s most beautiful and acoustically resonant environments – namely, the sanctuaries of our area’s churches. As a result, the choir has visited nearly forty houses of worship with its repertoire of sacred and secular music spanning five centuries.

Now in its seventeenth season, The Canisius College Chorale remains one of Western New York’s most active collegiate music ensembles. Composed of 100 undergraduate and graduate members, the Chorale regularly presents concert programs to school, church, and community audiences throughout Western New York and Southern Ontario. In recent years, the Chorale has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Ars Nova Chamber Musicians, Amherst Symphony Orchestra, Camerata di Sant’Antonio, Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus and the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

ITS recommends not to update to MacOS 10.10 Yosemite

Due to some issues that we are experiencing with a few users who have already installed this update on their own, ITS is recommending NOT to install the new MacOS upgrade to Yosemite (MacOS 10.10). There are some unique settings to Macs on our campus network that are proving to be incompatible with the new Mac operating system. As always, we recommend installing current software patches and security updates but please check with ITS when installing full OS upgrades. Questions can be directed to the ITS Help Desk at Ext. 8340 or emailed to helpdesk@canisius.edu.

Canisius Remembers the 25th Anniversary of the Jesuit Martyrs

Sarah Signorino, associate campus minister (front row left) and Joe Van Volkenburg, assistant to the director of campus ministry (front row right) led 20 Canisius delegates to Washington, D.C., for the 17th annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (IFTJ).

More than 20 Canisius College delegates joined 1,300 social justice advocates affiliated with Jesuit universities, high schools, parishes and the larger Catholic Church at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (IFTJ), from November 15-17 in Washington, D.C. The group was led by Sarah Signorino, associate campus minister and Joe Van Volkenburg, assistant to the director of campus ministry. The 17th annual Teach-In coincided with the 25th anniversary of the murders of six Jesuit priests and two laywomen, killed in El Salvador on November 16, 1989, by Salvadoran military for their defense of the economically poor.

The IFTJ is a nationwide social justice conference sponsored by the Ignatian Solidarity Network, a national lay-led, faith-based, social justice organization that works to mobilize Jesuit universities, high schools, parishes, and ministries and the larger church throughout the United States in order to effect positive social change on critical issues facing the world.  Teach-In attendees represent over 80 Catholic institutions in 25 states, Canada, and Mexico.

Earlier this month, Canisius held a Remembrance Mass for the Jesuit Martyrs in Christ the King Chapel. Students and staff who will participate in the Ignatian Family Teach-in and others, took part in a remembrance procession during the evening liturgy.
