Academic Talent Search is planning their annual Canisius College, Black History Month event. They are asking you to Save the Date –Thursday, February 26, 2015.
The theme last year was Reaching Back, Moving Forward – Celebrating Twenty Years of the Academic Talent Search/ Trio Program—An Education, Health, and Economic Empowerment Summit. We featured keynote speakers: spiritual leader and strategist for the Civil Rights Movement Rev. Dr. CT Vivian, and iconic journalist, culture critic, and TV host Touré, among others.
In previous years, we featured award-winning authors Barbara A. Seal-Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram, nationally-known inspirational speakers and authors of The Pact; The Three Doctors, Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt, and George Jenkins, awarding-winning actor, bestselling author and philanthropist Hill Harper, and investigative journalist, social activist, political commentator and author, Jeff Johnson.
These committed professionals focus on making the world a better place, sharing their story, and shedding light on the issues that matter most. They are an inspiration to all, especially young persons who are economically disadvantaged and at-risk. The emphasis of these talks will be to highlight the cultural, economic, educational and health issues critical to the students they serve, their families, and the communities where they live.
This year on Thursday, February 26, they expect it to be as impactful. The program is free to the public and located at Zion Dominion Global Ministries, 895 N. Forest Rd., Williamsville, NY 14221. In addition to these talks on February 26, they will host a VIP reception and book-signing event held the evening before.
Highlighting our program, ATS will have workshops and informational stations set up from various organizations consisting of educational opportunities, career choices, financial literacy, mental health, wellness, and other topics.
The Academic Talent Search Program of Canisius College is one of five federally funded Trio programs established under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. ATS serves approximately 600 youths recruited from area schools and community service organizations. The program provides educational, social, and career support services as well as co-curricular and cultural enrichment experiences.
Canisius College ATS Program is proud to host inspirational role models that bring an inspiring message to the young people of Buffalo and encourage them to pursue their own dreams and goals.
