Homecoming 2014 is a Huge Success

On behalf of the college and the Institutional Advancement Division, thank you to everyone throughout the college who contributed to the success of the 2014 Homecoming this weekend. A year’s worth of planning and hard work culminated in a fantastic series of events this weekend, headlined by the Friday night Tent Party that has received rave reviews from those in attendance.

Countless people gave up their personal time this weekend to ensure our alumni had a great experience and felt warmly welcomed back to their alma mater. We cannot begin to single out individuals or departments because so many people touched some piece of Homecoming, so thank you to everyone at Canisius College for a spectacular team effort!

Big Banned Book Week Finale!

Read-Out! at the final event of Bouwhuis Library’s Annual Celebration of Banned Book Week on Friday, September 26. Our famous Read-Out begins under the big yellow sign on the library’s first floor at 11:45 a.m. and continues through 2 p.m. …or until the last reader has read.

Come along to read, listen to or discuss topics ranging from censorship to tolerance. The Library has plenty to choose from in the “banned or challenged book” arena. From the Bible to dictionaries, fiction to poetry, scientific theories to historic debates…our shelves, databases and DVD’s offer more than you can imagine. Click here for a partial list of banned or challenged works.

Don’t be shy, bring something to read from your personal collection. Share a discovery you’ve made through exposure to a “classic” work that others have challenged. We’ve had an exhilarating week of panels and classes in support of intellectual freedom. The Read-Out provides a chance for you to be part of the discussion.

Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society, co-sponsor of this year’s event, reminds readers that they should introduce themselves, tell the audience a few things about the reading or book, then read aloud for 3-5 minutes from any written work (ex. book, speech, diary, letter, treaty, policy, newspaper, etc.). A microphone will be available. Please join us…it’s your last chance for a Banned Book Week prize…until next year.
