Big Banned Book Week Finale!

Read-Out! at the final event of Bouwhuis Library’s Annual Celebration of Banned Book Week on Friday, September 26. Our famous Read-Out begins under the big yellow sign on the library’s first floor at 11:45 a.m. and continues through 2 p.m. …or until the last reader has read.

Come along to read, listen to or discuss topics ranging from censorship to tolerance. The Library has plenty to choose from in the “banned or challenged book” arena. From the Bible to dictionaries, fiction to poetry, scientific theories to historic debates…our shelves, databases and DVD’s offer more than you can imagine. Don’t be shy, bring something to read from your personal collection. Share a discovery you’ve made through exposure to a “classic” work that others have challenged. We’ve had an exhilarating week of panels and classes in support of intellectual freedom. The Read-Out provides a chance for you to be part of the discussion.

Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society, co-sponsor of this year’s event, reminds readers that they should introduce themselves, tell the audience a few things about the reading or book, then read aloud for 3-5 minutes from any written work (ex. book, speech, diary, letter, treaty, policy, newspaper, etc.). A microphone will be available. Please join us…it’s your last chance for a Banned Book Week prize…until next year.
