They came, they saw and they conquered. Your Golden Griffin men’s cross country team competed in the National All-Catholics at Notre Dame last Friday afternoon and, for the first time in 33 attempts, came home with the championship trophy. The Griffs edged the Irish 33-35 with St. Louis capturing third place and Dayton finishing a distant fourth.

“We weren’t ready for Canisius, and they were more ready than we were,” said Notre Dame coach Matt Sparks.
Canisius finished 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th and 11th with Jeff Antalos posting the best Canisius time over the five mile course in 25:07.
“It was a great day for our program–a big step in the right direction. I’m extremely proud of our student-athletes,” added Griffin mentor Nate Huckle.
The five Canisius runners averaged 25:14, beating their previous best at Notre Dame by 11 seconds.
The Canisius women also fared quite well placing 6th. Catherine Phiilips took 18th with a time of 18:34 over the 5K course.
