Under the Dome to Publish Weekly

Beginning next week, Under the Dome will be published weekly, on Wednesdays, until the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester.  The first weekly issue will be published on Wednesday, May 15.  Daily issues will resume at the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester.

Please submit news items by 2 p.m. on the day prior to publication.

Commencement Week Information for Faculty and Staff

As the end of the semester quickly approaches, it is time to share pertinent information concerning one of the most important series of events for our college: Commencement Week 2013.

The schedule for the Spring Honors Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, Commencement exercises and related activities is listed below. All faculty members are expected and encouraged to attend the ceremonies pertaining to the level at which they teach, since students look forward to having their mentors join them in celebration of their academic accomplishments.

Graduate Ceremony, Wednesday, May 15 in the Koessler Athletic Center. (Academic regalia is worn for this event.)

  • 6:00 p.m. – assemble in the Patrick Lee Center
  • 6:45 p.m. – procession begins
  • 7:00 p.m. – ceremony begins

Spring Honors Convocation, Friday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center

  • 1:40 p.m. – assemble in Old Main Faculty Lounge. Awards will be presented to outstanding graduating seniors from each academic department and various programs.
  • In addition to student awards, the Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award will be presented to Bruce Dierenfield, PhD, professor of history and director of the All College Honors.
  • Refreshments will be served following this event to all honorees and their guests in the Economou Dining Hall.

Baccalaureate Mass in Honor of all members of the Class of 2013, Friday, May 17 at 5:00 p.m. in Koessler Athletic Center. (Academic regalia is worn for the Mass.)

  • 4:45 p.m. – assemble on the first floor of Koessler Athletic Center in the hallway next to the gymnasium
  • 4:55 p.m. – procession begins promptly

Undergraduate Ceremony, Saturday, May 18, at 10:00 a.m. in Alumni Arena on the north campus of SUNY at Buffalo. (Academic regalia is worn for this event.)

  • 9:00 a.m. – please arrive at the Edward Wright Practice Gym (the rear portion of Alumni Arena)
  • 9:45 a.m. – procession will begin promptly from the Triple Gym

Family Pictures

  • Any employee of the college receiving a degree or who has a spouse or child receiving a degree is welcome to have a complimentary family photograph taken immediately following the graduate and undergraduate ceremonies

Baseball Hosting Niagara This Weekend

With a spot in the MAAC Baseball Playoffs still in the balance, your Golden Griffin nine will host Niagara in a three game series this weekend.

The two WNY rivals will play a single nine inning game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, a single seven inning contest at 7 p.m. on Saturday night and a single nine inning clash at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

With an 11-7 mark in conference play, The Griffs need three wins in their last six league games to secure a spot in the four team field. Canisius owns the best overall record in the league at 34-13. Niagara is 15-31 overall and 9-12 in conference action.
