Young Writers Camps July 8-18

The Western New York Writing Project is accepting registrations for the children of Canisius faculty and staff for our summer writer’s camp.

The Young Writer’s Camp is open to students entering grades 3 – 7 and runs from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. each day. The Teen Writing Workshop is open to students entering grades 8 – 12 and runs from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. each day. Both camps run July 8-18.

Children of Canisius employees who register prior to July 1 will receive a $75 discount.

TIAA CREF Representative to be on Campus

Richard Brewer, individual consultant for TIAA CREF, will be on campus on Wednesday, July 10, in the Student Center Conference Room #205 and Thursday, August 8, in the Library Conference Room for individual counseling sessions. He will meet with individuals to review and discuss current investments, answer questions, and review their options to help meet retirement goals.

Time to Register for Blue & Gold Golf Classic

Do you enjoy playing a little golf? Did Justin Rose inspire you to take your game to another level this summer?

Well, you can experience the fun of playing golf and getting to meet and greet many of the College’s coaches, athletic staff and boosters, August 5, when the 16th Annual Blue & Gold Golf Classic tees off at Brierwood Country Club.

Cost is only $175.00 per golfer and you can register as a single or as part of a group. There’s a great lunch that begins at 11:30; 18 holes of golf on the spectacular Brierwood layout, refreshments on the course and an awesome sit-down dinner afterwards.

Canisius Dedicates New Focus Group Facility

The Canisius community is invited to attend the dedication of the college’s new Focus Group Facility, located at the Center for Professional Development in Amherst, on Thursday, June 20 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

The state-of-the-art facility will be named after Jacky Knopp Jr., PhD, emeritus professor of management and marketing at Canisius College and the late Bernard L. Martin HON ’78, PhD, the first dean of the School of Business Administration, now known as the Richard J. Wehle School of Business.

Established in December 2012 by Insight Associates Inc., the Focus Group Facility serves as a resource for Canisius marketing students and faculty, as well as community professionals in need of qualitative focus group research.

Fr. Pribek’s Final Vows

Father James Pribek, Associate Professor of English, will pronounce his final vows in the Society of Jesus on Friday, June 21st, at 2:30 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel. Fr. Michael Tunney, rector of the Canisius Jesuit Community, will receive the vows. All are welcome to attend the ceremony and the social that follows at Loyola Hall.

Jesuits take final vows after a period of formation that includes religious and professional training as well as several years of full-time ministry. Final professional also follows tertianship, a two-summer or nine-month program that revisits a Jesuit’s initial formation. Fr. Pribek entered the Jesuits in 1987, was ordained in 1999, and was sent to Canisius in 2004.
