Summer Science Camp, Writing Workshops

Children of faculty and staff have the opportunity of taking part in two summer-time learning adventures.

  • Children (grades 5-8) can join hundreds of middle-school-aged children from all over Western New York this summer at the popular Summer Science Camp. Students receive five fun-filled days of hands-on science activities and games, take home lots of cool stuff each day and enjoy a daily hot buffet lunch. They learn exciting new concepts every day and have the chance to make new friends. In addition, participants have the opportunity to interact with science and education professors and students on a college campus. Camp will be held from Monday, August 1 – Friday, August 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $100 which includes lunch. For more information, call Ext. 2355 or visit canisius.edu/sciencecamp.
  • The Western New York Writing Project Workshops for Young Writers are creative and enjoyable venues for kids to express themselves. This year’s workshops will be held Monday, July 11 – Friday, July 22 from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Kids from grades 3 – 12 learn creative writing skills in small workshops taught by certified teachers. May Is National Stroke Prevention Month

Each month, the Child & Family Services Employee Assistance Program (EAP) issues a wellness paragraph which contains information to benefit Canisius employees.

May is National Stroke Prevention Month.  Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the #1 cause of adult disability in America. In fact, about 750,000 people will have a stroke each year. A stroke is a ‘brain attack,’ and cuts off blood and oxygen flow to the brain cells that control everything we do. Strokes can be caused when a blood clot blocks an artery in the brain (ischemic stroke) or when an artery bursts due to a weak spot on a blood vessel wall (hemorrhagic stroke).

Canisius COMDOC Print/Copy/Scan Program

New copier/printer/scanners are beginning to arrive on campus to increase capability, improve service, reduce cost, and create a greener campus.  Departments will not see an upfront cost as the colleges moves to a per page pricing model.  Those costs are:

Xerox Black/White – $.008/page
Xerox Color – $.22/page
HP Black/White – $.035/page

Costs include all supplies except paper.  COMDOC will be the source for both supplies (except paper) and maintenance needs.  As part of the green initiative, please take advantage of the scanning capabilities to send documents electronically instead of by paper.  When paper is needed, consider the most cost effective means to create your document, including the Print Shop.

As the program progresses, please direct questions or concerns to Frank Kirstein, Director of Computer Infrastructure, at kirstein@canisius.edu.
