Panel Presentation Of Spiritual Exercises Participants

All are invited to attend a complimentary luncheon and panel presentation of faculty, staff and students who will share their experiences of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.  The event will take place Thursday (May 5) from noon to 1 p.m. in Grupp Fireside Lounge.

Sharing their experience of “Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life” (SEEL) with the completion of the Jesuit 30 Day Retreat gradually over eight months are: Sandra Estanek, PhD; Matt Mulville; Deborah Winslow-Schaber; Danielle LaMarre; Barbara Wozniak; Justine Price, PhD; Terri Mangione, PhD; Eileen Abbatoy; Rachel Flammer and Hunter Dudkiewicz.

Sharing their experience of “The First Experience,” the more flexible and somewhat less demanding way of praying, are: Michele Marable, PhD; Lisa Fischer; Erica Sammarco and Sharon Kasperczyk.

A third group, participants in the Ignatian Urban Scholars Program, will share how they have regularly done the Examen Of Consciousness or the Online Three-Minute Retreat, and how this has affected their lives and their decisions to work with high-needs students.  They are Theresa Ansbrow, Colleen Kielich, Bridget McPhelin, Lauren VanWie and Allyson Matlock.

Retirement Receptions Planned This Week

All Canisius faculty and staff are welcome to attend two retirement receptions this week.

An open house reception will be held Wednesday (May 4) from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. for Jim Sylvis, PhD, associate professor of kinesiology, on the main floor of Koessler Athletic Center.  Sylvis will retire after 37 years of service to Canisius College in the Department of Physical Education.  Please RSVP to Jane Pope at popej@canisius.edu or Ext. 2960.

An open house punch reception will be held Friday (May 6) from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. for Patricia Clayback in the Office of Professional Studies located in Demerly Hall.  Clayback retires after 32 years of service.

Third Lunch Time Laptop Seminar Thursday (May 5)

All are invited to bring a lunch and laptop for the third in a series of Lunch Time Laptop Seminars on Thursday (May 5) at noon in the Student Center Executive Conference Room.  This session is entitled “How to Be Hybrid: The How and Why to Use Online Discussion in Your F2F Classroom.”

The steps to moving online will be discussed along with why a hybrid course may be beneficial to content areas.   This session is offered by FacTS and facilitated by Marie Larcara, EdD.

Back by popular demand, a new season of the free Tune-in Series of Apple Education webinars has been designed to introduce educators and IT leaders to different aspects of Apple technology. The series is designed to acquaint participants with the benefits of Apple iOS devices and the content that can be created and used on them in education.

Monday: Introduction to iOS Products
Learn the basics of iOS devices, including examples of how they are being used in classrooms around the country. We’ll provide a basic overview of the role iTunes plays in app management and showcase a few accessories that can be helpful with these products in the classroom.

Tuesday: Education Content for iOS Devices
Learn about the four ways content providers are thinking about bringing content to the platform — the Web, iTunesU, the iBookstore, and the App Store. We’ll also demonstrate some popular third-party iOS applications, and explore some forward-looking textbook apps.

Wednesday: Creating Your Own Content
Creation of content can be a valuable education tool for both educators and students. This session explores elements of the iWork and iLife suites to demonstrate the ease of creating content and distributing it on mobile devices.

Thursday: iOS Content and Device Management
This session discusses how iOS devices work with iTunes, illustrates how the iPhone Configuration Utility can help restrict some functionality, and also demonstrates some common syncing configurations.

Friday: Planning iOS Device Deployments
The week ends with a session discussing iOS device deployment. Concepts from the week will be used to outline how an example deployment can be planned, typical types of decisions that need to be made at various stages, and provide some insight on how deployment can be worry free.
