2010 Canisius Care Deadline April 20

The last date to file for reimbursement for anyone with a balance in a 2010 Canisius Care account is April 20, 2011.  Claim forms can be found here.  Medical claims are submitted directly to Independent Health.

Save The Date — New Student Orientation 2011

New student orientation for all incoming first-year and transfer students will take place Wednesday, August 24 through Sunday, August 28, 2011.  The program will include an academic day, a student life day, a student involvement day, and many group and evening activities.

Ignatian Scholarship Day Is Today (April 15)

Don’t forget that today (April 15) is the fourth annual Ignatian Scholarship Day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the second floor of the Student Center, Montante Cultural Center and other campus venues. This event showcases the research, scholarship, and performances of our undergraduate and graduate students through poster displays, paper/multimedia presentations, two or three-dimensional art, or artistic performances (poetry, drama, vocal or instrumental music) throughout the day, as well as a concert by the music department in the evening.

Revolution Is Topic Of Lecture By Egyptian Youth Activist

Gigi Ibrahim, Egyptian youth activist, will speak on “Egyptian Revolution: The Power of Women and Social Media,” on Monday (April 18) at 7 p.m. in the Regis Room.

Ibrahim is a youth activist of the Egyptian Revolution, appearing on AlJazeera, BBC, ABC and other news outlets.  She has been featured on the cover of Time magazine and in a recent feature in Vanity Fair, entitled “Waking the Lion.”  Ibrahim’s Twitter account, @Gsquare86, has more than 10,000 followers and was used during the revolution as a means to promote the demands of the revolution.  During the revolution, PBS produced a Frontline special on her entitled “Gigi’s Revolution.”  She has also been featured on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and will appear on that show the week of April 25.

The event is free and open to the public.  Ibrahim’s lecture is presented by Amnesty International and the International Affairs Society, and is sponsored by the Department of International Relations, the William H. Fitzpatrick Institute of Public Affairs and Leadership, and OASIS.

Baseball Griffs Return To MAAC Play

Sean Jamieson is hitting .364 with 10 home runs

Sitting in third place, Canisius returns to MAAC action this weekend for a key conference series with St. Peter’s.  Saturday’s (April 16) doubleheader is slated to begin at noon, while Sunday’s single game will start at 2 p.m.

Manhattan (9-0) and Rider (8-1) have bolted out to hot starts and at 4-2, Canisius is looking to maintain pace against the league leaders.  St. Peter’s is 2-4 in league play.  Canisius plays its next three conference series on the road and will not play a conference game at home again until Fairfield visits on May 14-15.
