Paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the crash of Continental Flight 3407 in Clarence Center, Canisius College will host a concert by the chamber ensemble ANA on Friday, February 11 at 8 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel.  Held on the eve of the two-year anniversary of the tragic crash, the event will also include readings from the book “The Still Empty Chair: Love and Loss in the Wake of Flight 3407,” including a reading by Marilyn Kausner, mother of Ellyce M. Kausner ’07 who died in the crash. Sponsored by the Fine Arts Department and offices of Campus Ministry and Student Affairs, the evening is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature the composition “Toward the Light (Flight 3407)” by SUNY Fredonia Distinguished Professor of Guitar James Piorkowski, a composition inspired by the poem “Toward the Light” written by Canisius graduate Jane Sadowski ’83.  ANA, comprised of SUNY Fredonia faculty Angela Haas, soprano; Natasha Farny, cellist and Anne Kissel, pianist, will also perform music by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Rorem.

The book “The Still Empty Chair: Love and Loss in the Wake of Flight 3407” is a collection of poems, essays, articles, prayers, photos and remembrances honoring the victims of the plane crash.
