Consider Suicide Prevention Training To Respond To Distressed Students

The Counseling Center is offering suicide prevention training for the Canisius College community. Students, faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to participate in a 90 minute suicide prevention training program QPR, the CPR for suicide prevention.  QPR stands for Question… the student about suicide, Persuade…the student to get help, and Refer…the student for help.

QPR training workshops will be offered at the following times in Regis South:

Thursday, November 4, 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Friday, November 12, 8:30 – 10 a.m.

Thursday, November 18, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Wednesday, December 1, 3 – 4:30 p.m.

iLife ’11, Microsoft Office 2011 Now Available For Mac Users

Information Technology Services (ITS) announces upgrades for Mac users.

This year’s installment of the iLife suite features all new versions of iPhoto, Garage Band and iMovie with many new enhancements.  Also included is iWeb and iDVD.  Click here for details.  All campus owned Macintosh computers are eligible for this free upgrade.  Minimum system requirements for iLife ‘11: 2006 or newer Intel-based Mac running Mac OS 10.6.3 or greater, 5GB free disk space, 1GB RAM.

Microsoft Office 2011 finally brings Outlook to the Macintosh along with upgrades to Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  Users will be able to interact with shared calendars and Email on par with the Windows Office version.  Mac users will now share the ribbon bar interface as well as numerous other features.  Minimum system requirements: 2006 or newer Intel-based Mac running Mac OS 10.5.6 or greater, 2.5 GB free disk space, 1 GB RAM.  For more information on the new features available, please visit the Microsoft Office for Macintosh web site here.

Final Home Games For Women’s Soccer This Weekend

The Canisius women’s soccer team wraps up the regular season with visions of a conference championship dancing in their heads.  The Griffs host Manhattan on Friday (October 29) at 5 p.m. and then complete the regular season with a Senior Day finale against St. Peter’s at 1 p.m. on Sunday (October 31).  Both games will be at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Griffs currently reside in second place in the MAAC with a 5-2 mark.  Canisius trails Marist by one game heading into the final weekend.  The conference championships will be in Baltimore November 5 & 7.

Dance Griffs Competition Sunday (October 31)

Members of the Dance Griffs pair up with student club leaders in a dance competition on Sunday, (October 31) at 6 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.  A panel of judges will help to pick the winning duo along with the audience.

Tickets will be available in the Student Center Lobby for $2 during the lunch hours the rest of this week or at the door for $3.  Proceeds will be split between the winning club leader’s organization and the Dance Griffs.

Annual Women’s Studies Fair November 1-5

The students in WST 201 and the newly formed Women’s Studies Club will host the annual Women’s Studies Fair November 1-5 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily in the Palisano Pavilion.  The fair will feature presentations focusing on concerns and issues that affect women in the Western New York area.

There will also be raffles for theme baskets as well as daily baked goods sales to help the Circle of Women and the WST clubs to continue their efforts to address issues that affect women in our community.  All members of the Canisius College community are welcome to attend.
