The Division of Student Affairs and the Fitzpatrick Institute of Public Affairs and Leadership are pleased to announce the creation of the David W. Rohde ’67 PhD Student Academic Conference Travel Fund. The Rohde Fund will support the presentation of student research at academic conferences.
Rohde is currently the Ernestine Friedl Professor of Political Science at Duke University. On September 16, he presented the Fitzpatrick Lecture entitled “The Search for Patterns in Congressional Elections.” He asked that any speaking honorarium be used to assist Canisius College students.
“This is a very fitting tribute to Dr. Rohde because his career has emphasized the importance of student research,” said Michael V. Haselswerdt, PhD, professor, political science; director, William H. Fitzpatrick Institute of Public Affairs and Leadership.
Grants will cover 50 percent of travel and conference costs up to a maximum grant of $500. Interested students should apply to Haselswerdt. The request should include a brief description of the research that will be presented, a tentative budget, a letter from a faculty member attesting to the travel plans, and a commitment to write a one-page memo describing and evaluating the experience, as well as an agreement to provide a copy of the paper that was presented.
