Vogt Gallery Reception

Rev. Michael Flecky, S.J.; Charles, 2009; digital c-print; 20 x 16”

All are invited to attend a reception for Heart and Soul, a photo portrait show by Rev. Michael Flecky, S.J., professor of fine arts at Creighton University, Friday (September 10) from 5-7 p.m. in the Peter A. and Mary Lou Vogt Gallery/Bouwhuis Library.

Portraits in “Heart and Soul” were made as part of the annual Art Week at Heart and Soul Food Pantry and Dining Room, a community-based meal service for individuals and families in need in the Niagara Falls, NY area.  In summer 2010, along with their usual meals, guests participated in a week of drawing, painting, collage, and photographic murals.  The art works of the guests, as well as photographic portraits made in an improvised photo studio during Art Week, are continuously exhibited in the dining hall and service areas of the center throughout the year.

Library Offers Many Research Services

The Canisius College Library offers several options for research services for use by all Canisius faculty and administrative staff.

Book-A-Librarian:  Anyone can book a personal appointment with a Reference Librarian  This service is popular with faculty, students and staff who need a jump start with research; have hit a roadblock in their searches; need clarification on functions of a new database; or, perhaps know what they want and just can’t find it.  This service is particularly useful for students who want to follow up on what they’ve learned through a library instruction class.

For help with a research project or one-on-one assistance with other research needs, complete and submit the form located here.  A Canisius reference librarian will book requests for a personal appointment within two business days.

Request a Library Instruction Class: Instruction reference librarians assist faculty to develop library research skills with their students through specially designed classes held in the library.  Among topics covered are how to properly evaluate and authenticate appropriate, reliable and authoritative resources for the research needs.

Participants will learn to:

  • Conduct directed hands-on searches using subject-specific subscription databases;
  • Format citations properly using APA, MLA, Chicago Manual of Style, etc.;
  • Identify and access multiple information formats (print, electronic, microfilm, etc.)
  • Locate research materials in the catalog, and on the shelves
  • Recognize how a thesis statement can evolve through research
  • Explore access options through programs such as Interlibrary Loan or Connect NY — a consortium of libraries in New York State whose members have created a combined catalog of their collections.

Ask Us 24/7: Librarians answer questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – virtually. Chat online with a librarian through a cooperative service staffed by Canisius librarians and reference librarians from New York State, as well as other states and countries. Click here to enter your question.
