Rosenbloom To Lecture In Archives Speaker Series

Nancy J. Rosenbloom, PhD, professor of history, is the fall speaker for an Archives Speaker Series event Friday, October 1 at 2:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of Bouwhuis Library.  Light refreshments will be served.

In “Finding Sonya Levien: My Journey Through the Archives,” Rosenbloom will discuss the life and work of Levien, a suffragist who struggled out of early 20th century poverty in New York City tenements to earn a law degree and work for the People’s Institute as an investigative researcher, publicist, and lobbyist for the National Board of Censorship.  Levien appeared before numerous legislative committees against legalized censorship, and went on to the editorial world of New York magazines.  She also pursued a career as a Hollywood screenwriter during a time when progressives were trying to extend First Amendment rights to motion pictures.  Her films include Salome of the Tenements, Lucky Star, Quo Vadis, OKLAHOMA!, Daddy Long Legs, and State Fair.

This is the final event of the Library’s Banned Book Week schedule.

Time Running Out On Introductory Outlook Demos

Time is running out for faculty and staff to take the Outlook Introductory demonstrations.  These will be slowly phased out to make time for topics that are more advanced, including how to use the calendar feature to schedule meetings with two or more people.  There will be other nifty ideas mixed in as well.  This advanced schedule will begin in October.

For registration and information for the month of September, click here.  The October schedule will be out soon.
