Canisius College announces the formation of the Department of Kinesiology, which will include the academic programs formerly offered through the Departments of Sports Medicine, Health and Human Performance, and Physical Education, Health and Sport Studies.

The new department will be chaired by Jeffrey R. Lindauer, PhD, associate professor and chair of the Department of Physical Education, Health and Sport Studies, and include the following programs – Athletic Training, Health and Wellness, Health and Human Performance, and Physical Education.

“Effecting this merger will allow us to better serve our existing students while positioning us for growth in the burgeoning field of kinesiology,” said Michael J. Pardales, PhD, dean of the School of Education and Human Services. “This reconfiguration of our departments also supports the American Kinesiology Association’s recognition of the importance of studying physical activity and its effects on health, society, and quality of life.”
