Justine Price, PhD, To Speak On “Roy Lichtenstein: Post-Pop Painterly”

Justine Price, PhD, assistant professor of art history, will present an ArtsCanisius Meet-the-Faculty lecture titled “Roy Lichtenstein: Post-Pop Painterly” on Thursday, April 15 at 2:30 p.m. in Regis South.  The event is free and open to the public.

American artist Roy Lichtenstein created many of the iconic works of pop art of the post-War era. The artist’s first ambition, however, was to have been a painter in the tradition of the Abstract Expressionists.  A prolonged encounter with his pop work reveals his abstract desires to be hiding in plain sight.

Shoes For The Shelter Set For Sunday, April 18

Looking for a little fresh air, exercise, great food and lots of conversation?  Then check out the Shoes for the Shelter 5K presented by Independent Health this Sunday, April 18.  Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Patrick Lee Athletic Center on the day of the race.

As a community outreach program, more than 10,000 pairs of shoes have been donated since 2001 to St. Vincent dePaul Society.  Those who do not come to the race on Sunday can still participate by dropping any pair of old shoes (please make sure they are tied together) in the bins strategically located around campus, or bring them to the Koessler Athletic Center at any time.

The 5K event is for everyone.  A one mile fun walk slated to begin at 11:40 a.m., or join the main event at noon to run, jog, walk or saunter through Buffalo’s most picturesque piece of property at your own pace.  It is a Buffalo News Runner of Year event, so many of the top racers will be at the front of the field.

Afterwards, all of the participants gather in the Patrick Lee Athletic Center for a great party featuring food and beverage from Chartwell’s, Sahlen’s, Tim Horton’s, Upstate Farms, Rich Products and the Hyatt’s famous Yogurt Bar.  Lots of water and G2 to quench your thirst will also be available in this family-friendly event.

To enter, click here or pick up a registration form at the cafeteria during lunch and dinner hours this week. (Hint: it’s a bit less expensive if you register in advance and everyone gets a free hat from New Era)
