Forum on Innovation Fund

Calling all creative minds.

If you’ve been thinking about an innovative concept that has the potential to advance the university’s strategic agenda and achieve positive outcomes for students, then plan to attend the next forum on the President’s Innovation Fund. Set for Friday, March 8, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Regis Room of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center, the forum will focus on how Canisius faculty and staff can submit proposals for funding, and the criteria that will be used in selecting applications. Light refreshments will be provided.

Earlier this month, President Steve Stoute announced that the university will invest $1 million over the next five years toward the creation of a competitive grant program designed to “unleash the power of innovation.” The President’s Innovation Fund will support original and inventive concepts and practices that demonstrate creativity and ingenuity, and foster academic excellence and innovation as outlined in the first pillar of the strategic plan, Answer the Call.

Griff Fair Incentive for Faculty and Staff

This year’s Griff Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in the Science Hall Commons from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

We have made every attempt to bring a diverse group of employers based on our majors. Career Fairs are a relatively painless way for students to connect with employers who will have careers, internships, and summer opportunities. Thanks to our faculty and staff, students are well-prepared to take the next step in their careers. Our students are dedicated to their educational pursuits and have had exposure to research and experiential opportunities.

To continue offering these events for our students, recruiters must feel their time on campus is well spent. We are offering all sorts of prizes for students and are marketing the fair heavily but nothing compares to having faculty and staff support.

To this end, the registered employers are sponsoring a faculty and staff incentive.  The faculty or staff member who refers the most students to the fair will win a $200.00 certificate to Angeline’s restaurant on Delaware Avenue. When students sign in to the fair, we will ask who encouraged them to attend. Let the referring begin!

New Exhibit Inspired by Dr. Nathan Fox’s Research

Dr. Nathan Fox’s research is the inspiration behind the newest exhibit in the Peter A. and Mary Lou Vogt Gallery in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library.

“Games and Sequences: Figures from My Research” showcases Fox’s research interests, which lie at the intersection of combinatorics, number theory and theoretical computer science.  These four figures were inspired by his doctoral thesis and academic pursuits.

Many thanks to Fox for sharing these figures and we hope that our campus community enjoys this collection.
