Each year, the nation celebrates physician assistants, and their contributions to improved health access and outcomes. National PA Day was initially celebrated October 6, 1987, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the first graduating class of physician assistants. Eugene A. Stead, Jr., MD, who is credited with founding the profession, was born October 6. It has since grown into a week of celebration from October 6 -12 each year.
In honor of our Jesuit values and call to serve, we honor this week at Canisius by hosting our annual Health Equity Week. Stay tuned for the amazing work our students are doing to serve our local communities as outlined in the flyer.
Oh, and feel free to hug your PA this week!

This is an opportunity for faculty to take stock of where we are so far with generative artificial intelligence in our courses, assignments, pedagogy, and plans. It is a great opportunity to learn from colleagues, or together devise lessons and assessment appropriate for the Generative AI era!

Fans of the Canisius men’s and women’s basketball programs can catch a first glimpse of the 2023-24 Golden Griffin rosters on Tuesday, October 10, when the Athletic Department hosts an open practice from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., at the Koessler Athletic Center.
Current and potential season ticket holders, donors to the Canisius Blue & Gold Fund and Canisius faculty and staff will be able to watch both the men’s and women’s teams practice, and then have the chance to meet and interact with student-athletes and members of both teams’ coaching staffs. The event will get underway at 6:00 p.m., when the women’s team takes the floor, followed by the men’s team at 6:45 p.m. The meet-and-greet session with the men’s basketball team will take place while the women’s team is on the floor, and then the women’s team will be available to meet with those in attendance after they conclude their practice session.
Admission to this event is free of charge, and drinks and light refreshments will be provided. Representatives from the Canisius ticket office will be on hand that night to distribute season tickets to those fans who have already renewed their seats for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Fans can also purchase season tickets for the 2023-24 season at the event, as well.
To renew or purchase season tickets in advance, fans are encouraged to CLICK HERE to buy online, or call Todd Hummel in the Canisius ticket office at (716) 888-TIXX.
