Free popsockets and dollar hot dog day

For the very first time, Canisius men’s lacrosse hosts a game at the Demske Sports Complex that will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU. ESPNU studio host Matt Schick calls the play-by-play alongside color commentator Matt Ward. Schick is a native of Rochester and graduated from the University of Colorado.

The loser will face the top seed, Quinnipiac, in next week’s MAAC Tournament, while the winner will face-off against the number two seed – Detroit Mercy.

There will be Golden Griffin popsockets given away to the first 500 fans. It’s also Dollar Dog Day with all hot dogs being sold at the concession stands for only a buck.

Are you interested in a summer meetup?

The Center for Online Learning & Innovation must cancel its April 30 Faculty Meetup.  However, COLI will offer faculty meetups in the fall 2018 semester, and possibly the summer if there is interest.

Campus Candids

Canisius students on the “Team Ape” research team participated in a fundraiser at the Buffalo Zoo on April 15. The event, entitled “Yoga with Koga,” raised more than $4,000 for the Limbe Wildlife Center in Cameroon. Limbe is a member of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance and cares for primates (including gorillas) that are orphaned or displaced. This is an annual event, so join us next “APE-ril” for Yoga with Koga.

East West Community Garden Groundbreaking

President John Hurley puts the first shovel in the ground at the dedication of the East West Community Garden.

The community came together for the groundbreaking and dedication of the East West Community Garden on Saturday, April 21.

President John Hurley, Canisius faculty and staff, and representatives from P.S. #17, the Congolese Refugee Communities and Oxford Square Block Club were on hand for the event,

The community garden at 1032 Lafayette Avenue is a cooperative garden on Canisius’ campus in partnership with Oxford Square Block Club, PS #17, PS #74, the Congolese Refugee Communities and others. This garden is at the center of the college’s sustainability initiative. It is a place where Canisius community members, students and neighbors can meet, play, work on their raised beds, grow food, eat food and get to know one another. We have a lot to learn from each other!

#CanisiusGivingDay is TODAY!

#CanisiusGivingDay is all about celebrating the students who call Canisius home and the people and programs that make Canisius an exceptional place…… and it’s happening NOW! The goal is to secure 2,398 donors in 24 hours – one donor for every undergraduate student. To build momentum throughout the day, the Canisius Fund has six Donor Milestone Challenges in place. Each challenge represents a group of students on campus. For example, the 1,066 Donor Challenge honors the number of graduate students on campus. Each challenge will unlock $10,000 for tuition assistance and scholarships. View the challenges here.
