Makerspace is back!

Learn how to knit or crochet a scarf

Please join our next Makerspace activity as we teach you how to knit and/or crochet a scarf. Knitters and crocheters of all levels of experience are welcome to participate. We will meet Friday, January 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the glass box near Tim Horton’s inside the library. Supplies for this activity were purchased with funds from a generous donation from The Law Offices of Taheri and Todoro, P.C. Markerspace is a place where all members of the college community can create physical or digital items in common work spaces using shared resources and equipment. These events encourage students to explore and learn outside of the classroom.

This event is sponsored by the Art History Program in the Fine Arts Department.

Kids Day Comes to Canisius

Women’s basketball takes on Quinnipiac

The 19th Annual Golden Griffins Kids Day, presented by Independent Health, takes place on Friday, January 26 when your Canisius women’s basketball team looks to extend its current three-game win streak against Quinnipiac, the top team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Game time is slated for 11 a.m. and more than 2,000 elementary school children are expected to invade the Koessler Athletic Center for a morning of hoops and happiness. If you plan to attend, get ready for a crazy, fun atmosphere that includes almost as much dancing as it does basketball. Earplugs are allowed.

As for the action on the court, Canisius has moved to 4-4 in league play on the strength of three consecutive wins, two of which have come on the road. Meanwhile, Quinnipiac is 9-0 in the MAAC and is 55th (out of 349 Division I schools),

Attention Administrative Associates

Schedule and host web meetings and conferences

We are offering a special development opportunity for Canisius College’s administrative associates:  Learn to web conference!  Meeting via the internet is now popular across campus, as more and more faculty and staff adopt web conferencing to save time and expense, and bring guests from around the world into classes.  In general, knowing how to schedule and manage web meetings is a valuable business skillset.

In this workshop, you’ll become familiar with Zoom, our web meeting and conference provider here at Canisius.  Learn how to schedule meetings, invite participants, and make subsequent changes to meeting plans when needed, even on short notice.  Plus, you’ll discover the various things you and your meeting participants can do, such as turn on and off webcams, present a slideshow, and ensure meetings run smoothly and professionally.

Web conferencing is useful across a wide variety of jobs, from day-to-day communications, to special projects, impromptu meetings to big events.  While the technology will likely evolve, most software for running web meetings is quite similar or will be in the future, so learning it now means learning new features or other applications will be easier.

Because they are highly interactive, space in these workshops is limited. RSVP by emailing Mark Gallimore.

Our February workshops are full!  But two web conferencing workshops are available in March:

  • Monday, March 5th at 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 20th at 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
