Faculty and staff are invited to serve with campus ministry and Meals on Wheels on select Tuesday’s and Thursday’s this summer. We will deliver in the Hamlin Park section in the area right around the college.

The time commitment is from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. We are often finished in 40 minutes.

Mayor Byron Brown joins Canisius students to deliver Meals on Wheels.

Meals on Wheels provides balanced meals for the disabled and the elderly with the goal of keeping the person healthy and independent in their own homes.

Meals on Wheels is a ministry of hospitality. When we encounter the resident, we may be the only “Jesus” the person sees that day. The same is true for us – the client may be the only “Jesus” we meet that day. Jesus said “Whatsoever you do for the least of my brother and sisters you do for me.”

The group will deliver the meals in a Canisius van with me, Joe Van Volkenburg. We can take up to two people each time we go out. You are welcome to volunteer with a co-worker.

During the academic year Canisius student athletes with campus ministry serve Meals on Wheels several times a week. Several Canisius administrators have served on this route over the years including President John Hurley and Vice President Terri Mangione, PhD, among others.

In fall 2014, Canisius was awarded Corporate Partner of the year by Meals on Wheels of Western New York for our commitment to the Delores Nelson site in the Hamlin park section of the City of Buffalo.
