Mentor of the Year Award Renamed for Conley

The Department of College Student Personnel Administration renamed its annual Mentor of the Year Award in honor of Ellen O. Conley, PhD, upon her retirement.

Presented annually by the graduating class in the master’s program, the award recognizes the distinguished service of a student affairs professional, who served either a graduate assistantship or internship, or as an adjunct faculty member.

“Because of their commitment, our students are able to connect their classroom learning to professional practice, and are well-prepared to enter the job market,” says Sandra Estanek, PhD, director of the master’s program in college student personnel administration. “Dr. Conley exemplifies this commitment to students and to the future of the profession she has served so well.”

Conley served Canisius College for more than four decades, most recently as vice president for student affairs. She was previously dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, during which time she created the School of Education and Human Services. Conley was also instrumental in the development of women’s athletics at Canisius.
