Canisius Welcomes Andrea Alvarez, PhD

The Borders and Migration Initiative along with ArtsCanisius invites the campus community to join them at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 in the Library Learning Center for an art history lecture featuring the current Narsiso Martinez: From These Hands (De Estas  Manos) exhibit at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.

Andrea Alvarez, PhD, associate curator at the Buffalo AKG, will discuss this solo exhibition that features a selection of works that exemplify the artist’s unique practice of combining drawing and painting on reclaimed produce boxes. The exhibition will run through April 8, 2024.

The lecture is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be provided by the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library.

Create Using 3D Printers

The first Makerspace of the spring semester is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2024  at 1:00 p.m. in SH-1008.

Mark Gallimore, PhD and Tyler Kron-Piatek from COLI will present an overview of TinkerCAD and the ways in which we can create items with the university’s 3-D printers. Faculty, staff and students are welcome to join.

Makerspace is a place where students can create physical or digital items in common work spaces, using shared resources and equipment. Makerspaces are meant to be a mechanism for encouraging students to explore and learn outside the classroom.

Festival of the Ensembles

ArtsCanisius is overjoyed to invite you to the Festival of the Ensembles on Friday, March 1, 2024 in Montante Cultural Center.

All three students ensembles – Chamber Orchestra, Chorale, and Jazz Ensemble, will perform that evening, and it is a wonderful celebration of our students’ talents and the sense of community they build when participating in these musical performance groups.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets (general admission is $5) are available at the door or online at canisius.edu/artscanisius (click on the tickets and donation button on the homepage).

Buffalo Silver Band Concert

Please join us as the Buffalo Silver Band returns to Montante Cultural Center on Saturday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m. (please note the new time).

ArtsCanisius is overjoyed to welcome them to campus each fall as they perform a wonderful array of holiday music. This concert is a Free Will Offering (aka pay as you wish) and open to the public.

ArtsCanisius Hosts Fall Student Ensemble Concerts

Please join us and celebrate the musical talents of our students, faculty, and staff as our traditional end-of-semester ensemble concerts begin on Friday, November 17 with the Jazz Ensemble directed by Russell Scarbrough.

Next up will be the Chamber Orchestra on Sunday, December 3 led by Director Ansgarius Aylward.

Finally, the Canisius University Chorale, under the direction of Brad Wingert, will perform on Monday, December 4.
