Campus Candids

Thank you to all the students, faculty and staff who lent helping hands on Saturday, November 11, distributing an estimated 550 turkeys and produce to the local community! The annual Turkey Giveaway is hosted by MMB Realty Group and Friends, and took place this year at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Shoutout to the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams who did so much of the heavy lifting!

Thank You to the Campus Community

The undergraduate and graduate admissions teams would like to thank the campus community for their participation in our Fall Open House event on Saturday, November 11.

Prospective freshman, transfer and graduate students were welcomed to campus to learn about the amazing academic and student life opportunities that Canisius University has to offer.  These large-scale admissions events would not be possible without the support of the campus community at large, and we are grateful for all the collaboration and efforts that went in to make this event a success!

Thank you.

Canisius Teacher Candidates Provide Literacy Intervention

Canisius Reading Ready tutors donate Free Little Library at PS 89

Canisius received a $37,000 Benedict Silverman Foundation (BSF) grant to extend the university’s Reading Ready program at the Dr. Lydia T. Wright School (PS 89). The grant will also be used to offer the literacy intervention program at PS 17 in spring 2024.

Reading Ready is licensed by BSF, a mission-driven family foundation that promotes excellence and equity in American K-12 public schools by supporting research-based literacy instruction.

“This work is mutually beneficial because it provides our teacher candidates with high-quality professional development, including exposure to the latest research on the science of reading,” said Elizabeth Turner, director of Educational Partnerships at Canisius. “In addition, Reading Ready provides needed literacy tutoring for students in Buffalo public schools.”

This is the third grant the university received from BSF. Canisius received a $7,000 grant in spring 2023, and a $6,200 grant in summer 2023, from the foundation.

Employee Engagement Survey

Canisius University is pleased to announce the rollout of the 2023 Employee Engagement Survey on November 27.

This survey is designed to provide employees with a venue to offer open feedback and a direct voice to the leadership team of the university.

As the institution continues to develop a leadership culture that enables each member of our university community to pursue the magis, in service of our collective aspirations, it remains committed to improving the culture and focusing on key areas to strengthen the campus community.  Canisius seeks your input through this process in its efforts to hear and reflect on your feedback.  Your responses are completely anonymous.

Watch your E-mail on Monday, November 27 with a link to the survey, which will be open through Friday, December 15. Please contact Linda Walleshauser,  associate vice president for human resources and compliance, at Ext. 2244 with any questions.
