Hockey Home for Two vs. Air Force

Over the past five years, Canisius and Air Force have won more conference games than any team in Atlantic Hockey except for Robert Morris. This weekend, the two titans meet at HarborCenter for conference points that are becoming more valuable each week, as the regular season starts to wind down.

This weekend’s games commence a stretch of five consecutive home contests that will be vital to the Griffs’ playoff positioning for next month’s championship.

Game time on Friday, February 7 is set for 7:35 p.m. while Saturday’s contest (great if you have children) faces off at 4:05 p.m. There will also be an autograph table following the game on Saturday.

Discarded Ancestors: At the Intersection of Art and Ancestry

In collaboration with City of Light Publishing, the spring 2020 Archives Speaker Series presents “Discarded Ancestors: At the Intersection of Art and Ancestry” on Friday, February 28, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Canisius College Andrew L. Bouwhuis, SJ, Library.

The presentation and subsequent book launch will feature mixed-media artist Elizabeth Leader, who is drawn to places and objects most people would pass by on a street without ever giving a glance. When she found a photo album, curbside, on Buffalo’s East Side, Leader wondered how she might find clues to the lives of people found in the pictures? Whose faces are those lost in another time?

Out of these artifacts, Leader first created art, bringing stories to new life. Then, a chance meeting with two Canisius College librarians changed everything. The hunt for “Eleanor” was on!

Elizabeth Leader, along with librarians Lisa Sullivan and Kathleen DeLaney, will share how “finding Eleanor” led to personal stories of Buffalo’s rich immigrant history, the workplaces and urban landscapes filled with treasured legacies and secrets sometimes living among rubble that make for more mysteries to be solved.

Leader’s new book, Discarded Ancestors, is her debut as a non-fiction writer and features the artwork inspired by the photo album.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.  Books will also be available for purchase.

For more information, contact Kathleen DeLaney, archivist/special collections librarian at Ext. 8421 or at kdelaney@canisius.edu.

Taha-Copy-z1.jpg

Please join the Women’s Business Center (WBC) at Canisius College on Wednesday, March 18 for the Ignite Awards ceremony.  The annual event celebrates women business owners who have created success and supports the women-owned businesses that are looking to grow.  The event will be held in Science Hall from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Click here to add this event to your calendar.

Information on tickets, registration and sponsorship opportunities is below.

According to the Harvard Business Review, “women start businesses at twice the rate of men but only 2% of women-owned businesses break the $1 million threshold in terms of revenues.”

Through the WBC’s 16 years of existence, the center has served thousands of women seeking to launch new businesses or scale up their existing businesses. Last year alone, the WBC’s economic impact helped launch 19 new businesses; supported 363 jobs and fostered more than $3.80 million in revenue growth.

The Ignite Awards luncheon will be a telling visual of support with business resources and corporate services that serve small businesses. The energy will be palpable and meaningful connections will be made by all, as this very unique event will match up attendees at the tables with potential clients, partners and/or mentors.

Let’s take this opportunity to join forces to create greater success for us all!
