It’s Trivia Wednesday

The campus community is invited to watch The Dome for special “Trivia Wednesdays,” which will be published throughout the school year in every Wednesday edition. The first person to respond to pubrel@canisius.edu with the correct answer will win Canisius “swag.”

Additionally, once a month on Wednesdays, there will be a special giveaway in which the winner will receive some of the newly-designed Canisius sesquicentennial gear.

Winners will be announced the following Wednesday of each week along with the correct trivia answer. This week’s giveaway question is:

Wilbert Green II Named New Director of School and Community Partnerships

Welcome to Wilbert R. Green II, who joined the Canisius community on February 3 as the new director of school and community partnerships within the School of Education and Human Services. Responsible for cultivating and sustaining school and community partnerships, Green also oversees student teaching and field placements with the college’s teacher education programs. In these roles, Green works closely with the college’s coordinator of student teaching, teacher education faculty and associate deans.  He will also contribute significantly to the college’s Center for Urban Education (CUE) and New Buffalo Institute (NBI), both of which facilitate collaborations within the college and the local community in an effort to work in solidarity with partners on challenges and opportunities. 

Green comes to Canisius from Say Yes to Education Buffalo, where he served as the Community Schools East Zone leader. 

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in English and secondary education from Alfred University, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Phoenix.  He also holds a certification in executive conflict coaching.

Stay in Shape with Pilates and Yoga

And another fit photo.jpgThere’s still time to get in on the free Pilates and yoga classes being offered during the spring 2020 semester.  Sponsored by the Human Resources Department for faculty and staff, these classes are great for all levels of expertise. The next class is tonight, Wednesday, February 19.  See below for more upcoming dates so you can mark your calendars:

Pilates Classes (led by Instructor Larry Tassini, laboratory manager, Biology) will continue to take place on Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00 p.m., at the following locations:

  3. Mar. 4 –          Regis Room
  4. Mar. 11 –        Regis Room

Women’s Basketball Tips-Off Three-Game Homestand

We are into the homestretch of the college basketball season and your women’s basketball team plays four of its final six games at home. They begin the stretch with  a three-game homestand on Thursday, February 20 against Manhattan, continuing Saturday versus Monmouth and concluding with a Big Monday Battle of the Bridge contest with Niagara.

Thursday’s Manhattan game begins at 7:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon’s contest tips at 2:00 p.m. and the schedule concludes with a 7:00 p.m. game on Monday, February 24 versus the Purple Eagles. Anderson’s Ice Cream will supply free ice cream to all fans immediately after the Niagara battle.

Teaching Online: Updates & New Resources

Canisius College is regularly updating resources available to professors teaching online or hybrid courses. D2L, Zoom, or Google Apps may have new features that you might like to try out in your next course. Plus, COLI develops new online tutorials that may help you or your students.

The Center for Online Learning and Innovation offers an online live-remote workshop that helps attending faculty discover new tools and resources for teaching online.  Our next Online Teaching Updates Workshop is Friday, February 21, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
