Register Now for Shoes for the Shelter 5K

Registration is open for the 20th Annual Canisius College Shoes for the Shelter 5K, presented by Independent Health. Registration forms can be found on-line at GoGriffs.com (click on the rotating banner ad in the middle of the page or click on the athletics tab across the top).

The registration fee for faculty, staff and students is reduced. The cost is $20 for faculty and staff and only $15 students. The price increases by $5 if the runner waits to register on the day of the race.

This year’s event is on April 15 at 10 a.m. The run begins and ends near the intersection of Main and Delavan. Participants are encouraged to donate any old shoes they have in their closets. Last year’s total of 2,897 pairs of shoes increased the all-time total to 38,049 pairs collected since 2001. Even non-runners are encouraged to donate shoes. They may be dropped off anytime at KAC Room 181 or can be deposited in specially marked boxes around campus the week prior to the race.

Moriviví Unveiling and Open House

All are invited

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures celebrates the unveiling of a mural by Puerto Rican Colectivo Moriviví on Friday, March 2, from 5 – 7 p.m. in OM 314. The event coincides with Spanish major open house at which guests can learn from our current students majoring in the program about our short-term study abroad options and study tours, language tables and the dual immersion program. Both events are open to students, faculty and administrators. Refreshments will be served. Click the flyer below for details.

Tune in to “Crossroads” this Sunday

Pat Hutton, PhD, shares the latest on the Canisius Enactus program and its many initiatives

Tune in to “Crossroads” this Sunday, March 4 when program host Rev. Patrick J. Lynch, SJ, showcases Canisius’ Enactus program and its many initiatives.  Patricia A. Hutton, PhD, professor of economics/finance, is the featured guest.  She is the founder and mentor of the Enactus chapter at Canisius.

Comprised of student, academic and business leaders, Enactus uses the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.  Hutton will discuss some of the chapter’s primary projects, including QuadGear, the West Side Refugee Business Startup, the Small Business Loan Fund and Sew REDI (Refugee Economic Development Initiative).

“Crossroads” is a monthly radio program produced by the Network of Religious Communities.  It airs on the first Sunday of each month at 6:00 a.m. on MIX-96 (96.1 FM) and at 6:30 a.m. on JACK-FM (92.9).

The broadcast will also be available on the Canisius SoundCloud beginning Monday, March 5.

Rev. Brian P. Dunkle, SJ, to Speak

Talk is entitled “Peter Canisius, the Humanities and Jesuit Education”

Brian P. Dunkle, SJ, will speak on Monday, March 5, 2018 in Grupp Fireside Lounge at 7 p.m. to celebrate the establishment of the Institute for Classical and Medieval Studies.Canisius. His talk is entitled Peter Canisius, the Humanities and Jesuit Education. Rev. Dunkle is familiar to many on campus, because of his years here as a resident of Loyola Hall and a member of the Classics Department. Now an assistant professor of historical theology in the School of Theology and Ministry at Boston College, Rev. Dunkle recently published a well-received book, Enchantment and Creed in the Hymns of Ambrose of Milan (Oxford UP 2017). We are delighted that he has agreed to spend a few days with us at Canisius to share his thoughts on Jesuit education and theological scholarship. The event is free and open to the public.

Support Student International Service-immersion Experiences

Attend annual RAISE Benefit

Campus Ministry’s annual RAISE Benefit will take place next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 7- 9, 2018. RAISE directly benefits the 25 team members going on service-immersion experiences this summer in Poland with the Mustard Seed Community in Jamaica and with the Kino Border Initiative on the U.S./Mexico border.

Basket raffles, 50-50 tickets, silent auction items (including a three-hour photo session with Tom Wolf) a grilled cheese/soup lunch, and a bake sale will be available in the Old Main second floor lounge Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Other auction items include tennis lessons, a handmade blanket, swing dance lessons, massages, restaurant gift certificates and babysitting.

Our basket and silent auction items will move to the Montante Cultural Center on Friday, March 9 from 5 – 8 p.m. for our RAISE Benefit dinner. Enjoy live music, delicious food and drink from Chartwells Dining. Raffles will be available for bidding. Tickets for this dinner are $25 for adults, $10 for students and children over 10, and free for children 10 and under. There is also a package deal for four adult tickets for $75.

Tickets are available in Campus Ministry OM 207 and at the door.

Windsong Brings Mobile Mammograms to Canisius

Convenient screenings for women aged 40 – 65

Windsong Radiology Group’s mobile mammography unit visits Canisius on Friday, March 16 from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 17 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Koessler Athletic Center Lower Parking Lot

Women from the ages of 40 – 65 years old, who are overdue for their annual screening mammogram and present with no current pain or issues and no history of breast cancer in past five years, can receive a routine 3D screening mammography.

The test is covered by most health insurance companies. Those without insurance then may qualify for free screening through Cancer Service. Call Windsong to schedule an appointment at (716) 929-9494 or click here.
