ITS Service Interruptions

On Saturday, August 5, ITS scheduled essential electrical work on the UPS system in Old Main that supplies power to the campus network core infrastructure, servers, telephone system, and internet (connecting) equipment.

The work will require approximately six hours to complete. In an effort to minimize downtime, we are installing temporary power hookups for critical equipment.

Starting on Friday, August 4, at 6:00 p.m., there may be short, temporary outages of various services as equipment is moved to alternate power in preparation for Saturday’s electrical work.

Serious Games Meetup Group Returns

seriousgamesmeetup2On Friday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m., Serious Games Meetup Group convenes its first meetup of the Fall 2017 semester.  Leah MacVie, PhD, will show us games she has employed in her classroom, and the ways she has encouraged future teachers to think about gaming as part of pedagogy.  Games needn’t be complicated, tech-heavy, and big-budget activities – Professor MacVie and her students play and create “analog” paper and card games that enable learners to experience concepts as processes and activities.
Serious Games can serve a wide variety of purposes: educational, scientific simulation, healthcare and therapy, personnel training, emergency management, city planning, and politics.  The Serious Games Meetup Group explores learning theories and game design, and conducts workshops for faculty that explore digital and analog game use and creation.  And yes, we play some games, too!
The group, facilitated by P.J. Moskal, PhD, associate professor of Digital Media Arts, and Mark Gallimore, PhD, instructional designer in the Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI), will meet on the first Friday of the month for one-hour sessions.
