screen-shot-2016-04-22-at-12-25-31-pmThe French and German programs of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Canisius College French Club host Beverly Evans, PhD, professor of French and Western Humanties at SUNY Geneseo, on Friday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. in Old Main 223. Evans will give a lecture entitled “French Music of the Great War and the Ongoing “Grand débat sur l’identité nationale.

Wartime music provides clear testimonial to the importance of melody and text in times of conflict. This presentation surveys typical French songs of the WWI era and speculates on why such a surprising number of popular singers from the late 1950s to the present have continued to record actual songs of the Great War.
