The Information Technology Services Department (ITS) would like to remind the campus community about some safe computing tips, especially when it comes to emails received.  While Canisius College utilizes sophisticated hardware and software to filter out email phishing attacks and scams, nothing can be 100 percent effective.  Some nefarious email messages will invariably creep through.  Please keep these safe computing tips in mind.

  • Avoid clicking links which look like gibberish which are sent to you by unknown persons or that seem unusual for the person who sent it.
  • Be wary of email attachments as they are a popular venue for viruses.  Do not open unsolicited or unexpected attachments.
  • Be wary of email asking for your log in information, especially if they appear to come from some “system administrator” or “IT team” or “security team.”  Canisius College Information Technology Services will never send such an email.
  • Do not give private information to anyone you don’t know or who does not have a legitimate need to know.
