Porter Farms returns to campus on Thursday, April 21 in Grupp Fireside Lounge to present its program for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) worksite delivery program here at Canisius. There will be three sessions held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

A CSA is a group of members who purchase “shares” that entitle them to a season’s worth of produce from Porter Farms. The farm provides a wide variety of fresh, organic vegetables in a socially and environmentally responsible fashion.

As a shareholder, you receive a bag of 10-12 pounds of fresh, organic vegetables each week of our harvest season. Usually the first harvest is in late June and runs for 22 weeks (to the week before Thanksgiving). More than 40 varieties of organic vegetables are grown. Click here to see a list of produce and approximately what month that produce would be arriving in the shares.

For every 15 shares that Canisius has for its worksite program, Porter Farms will donate a share to a local organization that deals with families in need such as St. Lukes.

Membership forms need to be completed and returned with payment to the Human Resources office no later than May 6. Checks should be made payable to Porter Farms. We need a minimum of 20 shares to have this program in place and currently we are at 11 shares!

You may want to split a share with a co-worker, family member, or neighbor if you feel a full share is too much.  If you wish to participate but need to find someone to split a share, please contact Dawn Rotterman at rottermd@canisius.edu or Ext. 3151 and she will pair you with someone else looking to split a share.
