Notice to SPSS users for Spring 2015

Beginning with the fall 2014 semester, computers in the labs and in the technology classrooms were updated to SPSS version 22, the latest version, because IBM support for earlier versions is not available. Starting with this semester, all SPSS users will need to upgrade on their Canisius computers, as versions 19 and lower will no longer run as of January 9, 2015.

Users will see minimal changes in this version. Although there is still a “Welcome” dialog box, and the same options to create and open data files are visible, although they are in a different arrangement. In addition, a link to tutorials has been added to the screen. There are, however, some enhancements that may be of interest to campus users. Output can now be presentation-ready, with the ability to add formatting, annotations and highlights of significant values directly in the output window. Another added feature is that python is part of the main install, and users can search for and download extensions within the interface. More information on this new version can be found here:

If you are an SPSS user, ITS will upgrade your computer and any student computers in your department that require it, to the newest version. Please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@canisius.edu or 888-8340 to arrange for the upgrade.

Hockey Hosting Key Series This Weekend

Coming off an impressive sweep of second place Holy Cross, your Canisius Golden Griffin hockey team looks to continue its climb up the Atlantic Hockey standings this weekend.

Canisius is locked in a three-way tie with Mercyhurst and Bentley for third place in the conference. The trio sits one point behind second place Holy Cross. Canisius plays at Mercyhurst tonight (Tuesday), before welcoming Bentley to the HARBORCENTER this weekend.  The top four teams receive a bye in the league tournament.

Both games against Bentley start at 7:35 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.  The Falcons have one of the most lethal power play units in the country. Complimentary HARBORCENTER hats will be given away Saturday night.

One important parking note. If you are attending the game on Saturday, the Sabres are also at home. Parking in the ramp escalates to $20 on Sabres nights, so we suggest you grab the subway and come downtown in that manner.
