First-Place Baseball Team Hosts Monmouth Thursday and Friday

The red-hot Canisius College baseball team wraps up the regular season against Monmouth University, hosting a doubleheader on Thursday and a single game on Friday. First pitch each day is set for noon.

The Golden Griffins start the week on a 12-game winning streak, the longest winning streak in program history, while Monmouth comes to Buffalo on a 10-game winning streak. Canisius needs two wins in its final three games to win the MAAC regular-season title.

Prior to the start of Friday’s game, the team will honor the eight members of the 2014 Senior Class.

PR Team Wins Platinum, Gold in International Competition

The college’s public relations team won three 2014 Hermes Creative Awards. Hermes is an international competition administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP).  The competition has grown to one of the largest of its kind in the world. Winners in this competition range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.

Canisius received two Platinum Awards in the “Overall Publication” categories for the 2014 Winter Canisius Magazine and the 2014 Canisius Community Report.  Entries in the “Overall Publication” category were judged on concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media. Hermes’ prestigious Platinum Awards are presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding entries in the competition.  Only 15 percent (825), of the 5,500 entries, received a 2014 Platinum Award.

Canisius also won a Gold Award for overall writing for Canisius Magazine.  Gold Awards are presented to entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm.  Approximately 21 percent (1,155) of the entries received a 2014 Gold Award.

Kristin E. Etu, assistant director of public relations, received honorable mention in the writing category for her article “Breakaway – Cory Conacher ’11 battles on and off the ice to make his mark in the NHL,” which appeared in the spring 2013 issue of Canisius College Magazine.
