Public Relations won a Gold Excalibur Award and a Platinum Excalibur Award, or “Best of Show,” from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Buffalo Niagara chapter. The awards were presented to Debra Park, associate vice president for public relations, and Eileen Herbert, director of public relations, at the annual Excalibur Awards dinner held Thursday, June 16 at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. Park and Herbert also received a Silver Excalibur Award in the Special Events category for the “Inauguration of President John J. Hurley.” Melissa Wanzer, EdD, professor of communication studies and S. Catherine Foster, PhD, assistant professor of communication studies, received a Silver Excalibur Award in the Public Service category for the Communication Studies Department’s “COM 360 Health Campaigns: Testicular Cancer Awareness Campaign,” and a Silver Excalibur in the Creative Tactics category for “COM 360 Health Campaigns: Testicular Cancer Awareness Shower Hanger.” Barbara J. Irwin, PhD, professor of communication studies and co-director of the Canisius College Video Institute, received a Silver Excalibur in the External Video Programs category for the Video Institute’s “Canine Helpers for the Handicapped.”
