What To Do With Unused Toner Supplies?

As we work with COMDOC to replace copiers around campus, a frequent question that comes up is, “What do I do with the remaining toner supplies from the old copier?”  COMDOC provided us with the following answer.

In instances where these supplies were provided as part of an old Maintenance Agreement, the unused toners should be sent back to the former copier maintenance provider. If your old maintenance provider does not want or accept returns, or you have partially used toner cartridges (bottles), please keep these with the old copier to be disposed of by COMDOC. Spent/empty containers can be thrown out in the regular trash. Unused and partially used cartridges/containers are considered hazardous chemicals and should be disposed of accordingly. If you miss the opportunity to return or dispose of the toner with the old copier, Canisius has a hazardous chemical disposal program in place. Contact Dave Teloh at Ext. 2233 or telohd@canisius.edu for more information.

HP 4000 class laser printers will be used in some locations for contingency printing. If you have spare, unused HP 4000 cartridges, you may consider donating cartridges to locations where these HP printers will be used. Partial cartridges or cartridges from other HP models should be disposed of by giving the cartridges to COMDOC or by disposing via the Hazardous Chemical waste program. Unfortunately, there are no provisions for purchase or reimbursement of spare supplies.
