The Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library will offer a fine amnesty period for three weeks only from May 2 – 20.  Fines will be waived to encourage borrowers to return books, DVDs, curriculum center materials and other library items.

For each dollar owed, the fine will be waived if the borrower donates one non-perishable food item.  For example, if the fine owed is $10, the person who owes the fine can bring in 10 non-perishable food items and have the fine waived.  The goal is to ensure that all those books, DVDs, etc., that might be “relaxing” under couches, inside brief cases, or under papers in offices find their way back to the library…no questions asked…so that other patrons can enjoy them.

Best of all, during this amnesty period, even ConnectNY fines will be waived.  However, amnesty does not extend to item replacement costs.

Non-perishable items extend beyond canned fruits and vegetable items.  Coffee, tea, non-dairy creamer, peanut butter, jam or jelly, even boxed cake or cookie mixes are welcome.  All non-perishable foods will be donated to St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy with the assistance of the Office of Campus Ministry.

For more information contact the library’s Single Service Desk at Ext. 8412 or 8411.
