Chindemi Named VP For Institutional Advancement

Canisius welcomes Craig T. Chindemi as vice president for institutional advancement. As the chief advancement officer for the college, Chindemi is responsible for developing and managing programs that strengthen relationships to secure the necessary resources for ensuring the financial well-being and growth of the institution. Chindemi began work July 1.

“Craig has a history of demonstrated success in development and higher education development, in particular,” says President John J. Hurley. “I am confident that his vision and creativity will enable Craig to uniquely combine the needs and objectives of prospective donors with the mission and vision of Canisius College.”

“Canisius has a long and storied history,” adds Chindemi. “Countless people over generations have built the college into the preeminent Catholic institution it is today. It is an honor to join Canisius College not only for its history of academic excellence but also for the exciting vision that is being set for its future.”

Chindemi comes to Canisius with more than 25 years of experience in higher education advancement. He served as vice president of Community Counselling Service (CCS), a comprehensive fund-raising consultant and management firm with offices throughout the United States, and in Toronto, London and Dublin. In this role, Chindemi was the lead consultant on several multimillion dollar fund-raising campaigns at various colleges and universities, including Fairfield University. Here, Chindemi, with Fairfield leadership, developed a multi-year comprehensive plan that led to the university securing $137.9 million.

During his tenure at CCS, Chindemi also played a lead role in securing support for the C-Change. The organization gathered leaders from the not-for-profit, public and private sectors to reenergize the war on cancer. Chindemi was charged with raising start-up capital in the amount of $15 million over an 18-month period. Under his leadership, C-Change secured more than $25 million in 24 months.

“Craig proved himself to be an outstanding candidate for this position in many ways,” says Ann E. Celani ’74, chair of the Canisius College Board of Trustees’ Institutional Advancement Committee. “Aside from his impressive record of development experience, Craig is a high-energy personality who looks outside-the-box for new ideas and innovative ways to do things. He will be a tremendous asset to Canisius College.”

Chindemi holds a BA from St. Thomas University in Miami, FL and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), and is a member of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP). An avid volunteer at his alma mater, Chindemi serves on the St. Thomas University President’s Board of Advisors, its Branding Committee and is a member of the Alumni Committee.
