Persis Parshall Vehar, Canisius College Composer-in-Residence, will present a lecture entitled “The Making of an Opera, Part I” on Thursday, November 5 at 2:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Admission is free.

From the initial suggestion through the “developmental premiere,” Vehar takes the audience through the steps involved in producing her 5th opera, Eleanor Roosevelt. Scenes from the first performance by the Lake George Opera at Saratoga at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center will be shown during the lecture The approach to this new work of art includes research, visiting historical sites, and how librettist Gabrielle Vehar’s adapted Rhoda Lerman’s play, Eleanor: Her Secret Journey into a full-length opera.
