The PA program is proud to announce that Samuel Franck Seppo, a recent graduate from the inaugural cohort, was just matched with a radiation oncology residency after successfully passing this first two step exams for medical school.
Seppo accomplished this incredible feat during his clinical rotations after being encouraged by a number of his oncology preceptors with Roswell Park Cancer Institute as a PA student, based on his exceptional performance. He graduated with a 3.86 GPA, all while being thousands of miles away from his wife and daughters.
Seppo was also a recipient of one of the first Mother Cabrini Health Foundation scholarships and has been a leader among leaders in his cohort throughout PA school. We are incredibly proud to send him off to complete his education in medical residency, knowing he will be a strong advocate for his cancer patients, the PA profession, and Canisius University for years to come. Best of luck to Dr. Seppo!

The Canisius PA Program is proud to announce that Mahmoud Farhat, from the Class of 2023, was accepted into a highly competitive fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital through University of Michigan. He is the only fellow selected out of a total of 8-10 people taken each year in this specialty across the country.
This hospital has been voted among the top 50 in the country for cardiac surgery and Newsweek lists it among the top 100 in the world.
Upon completion of the fellowship, Farhat will have an in-depth understanding of the various sub-specialties within cardiothoracic surgery and be side-by-side with the surgeons in the operating room.
This is a source of real pride for the PA program and the university, and representative of the hard work and sacrifices of Mahmoud over the past two-plus years.

A social gathering for international students, faculty, and staff at Canisius was hosted on Wednesday by International Student Programs, Office of Admissions and Physician Assistant Studies to help create a greater sense of community and connection.
At least 27 different countries from around the world were represented and attendees had a chance to samples some favorite snacks and treats from around the world as well as some good old fashioned Buffalo pizza.
Students also had a chance to hear from President Stoute about his experiences as an international student, the importance of community, and the commitment from Canisius to continue creating a more diverse and inclusive environment where people of all backgrounds can thrive. Please keep on the lookout for more events like this to come.

The PA program welcomed its third cohort with an orientation and social prior to the start of the spring 2023 semester. Students learned more about the program, explored their learning space, and welcomed their loved ones to experience a “day in the life of a PA student.” We are incredibly excited to begin our journey with the Class of 2025!
