The Canisius College Video Institute production of the February episode of “Kaleidoscope” premiered earlier this month on WGRZ-TV 2. This 30-minute television program celebrates the religious diversity of our region and is produced in conjunction with the Network of Religious Communities. “Kaleidoscope” will rebroadcast each Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Spectrum Cable 20 and each Sunday at 8:00 p.m. on Charter 6 in Olean, NY.
Every February since 1926, Americans have honored the gifts and contributions of African Americans with the celebration of Black History Month. In honor of this tradition, program host Dr. Stan Bratton, speaks with Rev. James Lewis III and Rev. Zandra Lewis, leaders of African American denominations and congregations located in Western New York.
In commemoration of the 160th Anniversary of the Network of Religious Communities, a Multi-faith Celebration of Religions and Spirituality in Western New York was held. An event called Faith Songs Spirit Voices was held at Canisius College to celebrate religion and spirituality. At this event, there were a number of performances including songs, dances, and storytelling. In the second segment, Dr. Stan Bratton interviews Rev. Dr. Jonathan Lawrence, a professor in the Department of Religion at Canisius College, about Faith Songs Spirit Voices as an introduction to the sights and sounds of the program.
Students in the Canisius College Video Institute produce “Kaleidoscope” under the guidance of Barbara J. Irwin, PhD, professor in the Department of Communication and co-director of the Video Institute, Jamie O’Neil, associate professor of digital media arts and co-director of the Video Institute, and Paula DeAngelis-Stein ’86, MS ’02.
