If you are a new professor at Canisius, or have taught at Canisius for awhile but would like to learn or review essentials of D2L, the Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) is offering daytime and evening D2L training sessions in August.
In each of these sessions, professors will learn the very basics of teaching in D2L:
Upload files so students can get them
Organize your course content
Set due dates so students can see them (in multiple places)
Build a gradebook
Participants will discover all sorts of other features useful for teaching classes in particular disciplines. The session will get you started using D2L and using the internet to save time and effort teaching. Review the COLI Calendar to see times and locations for these and other training events.

The fall 2019 course spaces are now available for building or adding course content. D2L will undergo technical upgrades from Saturday, August 17 – Monday, August 19 that may impact fall 2019 course spaces.
During this maintenance period, there may be service disruptions where you are unable to reach your D2L course spaces. We ask that during this time you do not attempt to add or change course content.
If you plan to build new or substantially updated content that is different from course materials stored in a previous semester before August 17, please download and save backups of the new or amended course content. D2L makes this quick and easy. See the tutorial video on exporting course packages below:
Backup is an essential practice for any faculty member. If you do not practice a backup plan now is a great time to start.

in the Institute for Autism Research’s summerMAX Program enjoy Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities from the AT&T and
WNY STEM Hub Prism Program. SummerMAX is a comprehensive psychosocial
treatment program, developed by co-directors Marcus Thomeer, PhD and
Christopher Lopata, PsyD, for 7-12 year old children with high functioning autism
spectrum disorder (HFASD). The collaboration between AT&T, WNY STEM
Hub and the Institute for Autism Research incorporated STEM activities into the
summerMAX program.

Autism Research and watch the children participate in the new STEM activities. Click

The Buffalo News recently featured English and psychology graduate Joanah Perkins ’19 in a story entitled “From St. Luke’s to law school: Joanah Perkins blazes her own path.” Both Joanah and her sister, Sydnie Perkins ’16, MS ’20, assistant director of communications, virtual engagement and data for the Office of Alumni Engagement at Canisius, attended St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy home school from kindergarten through eighth grade. Joanah attributes her success to those who have surrounded her with support, including her mentor Mike Taheri ’82, a Buffalo lawyer and mentor of Joanah’s and Amy Betros HON ’09, co-founder of St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy.
Joanah is the first St. Luke’s graduate to pursue
a law degree and began school this summer at the New England School of Law in
Boston.
