I. Joan Lorch, PhD, professor emerita of biology and former chair of the Biology Department, received an honorary degree from Canisius College. Unable to receive her award during Commencement ceremonies, President John J. Hurley presented the award to Lorch on Thursday, June 20.

Teacher residents discuss co-teaching relationships and communication based on personality traits at the first Mentor-Resident Professional Development Workshop on Saturday, June 22nd.
Success in the classroom begins when professionals collaborate to meet the needs of all learners. Teacher residents participating in the college’s WNY Teacher Residency Program were recently matched with mentor teachers and are diving into workshops surrounding co-teaching in preparation for the residency year this fall.
Laura McEwen,
assistant dean of the Wehle School of Business and Sarah Signorino, director of
Mission & Identity, participated in a Leadership Buffalo Essentials (LBE) meeting
on Wednesday, June 5.
LBE meets once a
month from March through August to create opportunities for non-managerial
employees to experience Buffalo from all perspectives, increase their knowledge
of the importance of community service, develop their servant leadership skills
and create a more cohesive culture within their organizations.
McEwen and Signorino
shared lunch with 35 members of the cohort (half from Lawley Insurance and half
from Buffalo non-profit organizations) and learned about the challenges and
growth opportunities in Buffalo.
The college will close at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3. All but essential operating personnel are included in this early closure. The college will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 and will reopen on Monday, July 8. We wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday!

Please note that staff self-assessments should be completed by Friday, June 28. To access your self-assessment, log into MyCanisius, then click on applications and human resources appraisal. You will be able to access your self- assessment information to complete the form. Once you submit your self- assessment, your manager will be able to utilize the document to prepare your individual performance appraisal.
Self-assessments are designed to facilitate the performance discussion.
The manager will complete the performance appraisal and then schedule a meeting with you to review the details and finalize goals for the next year.
The employee will receive the final document and add comments and sign to acknowledge that the appraisal was received and reviewed.
The appraisal will be available to view at the vice president level.
Managers should complete all performance appraisals by Monday, August 5.
