The Philosophy Department invites those interested to participate in the second annual Immersion East Side Faculty/Staff Seminar from Wednesday, August 14 – Friday, August 16.

The Immersion East Side Program began as an Ignatian Seminar for students with a field component involving Buffalo’s East Side communities. As the program expands, we are inviting faculty and interested staff to participate in the seminar, in community-engaged research and other aspects of the Immersion East Side Program. To give faculty and staff a feel for what we do with the students and the areas of focus important to our program, we are offering a three-day summer immersion for faculty and staff. Prior to the immersion, readings will be sent out to help faculty and staff prepare for the trip. In addition, we ask that those interested commit to occasional meetings during the fall 2019 semester to meet with community partners, further reflect on the immersion experience, explore research and teaching opportunities related to the seminar and plan for future events that bring Canisius together with its East Side partners. There will be opportunities for optional weekend activities such as attending services at a Black Church, a jam session at the Colored Musician’s Club and touring the African-American Heritage Corridor.

All expenses will be covered and include reading materials, food and transportation. Participants will receive a $250 stipend. Please use the Google Form to indicate your interest by Monday, July 22. Click here to view an article on last year’s seminar.
