Fourteen high school students from the Erie 1 BOCES Legal Academy graduated on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.  More than 50 family members and friends attended the ceremony held in the Marie Maday Theatre at Canisius College.

The BOCES high school students, who were enrolled in the New Vision Legal Academy senior honors class for the 2015-2016 academic year, received instruction at Canisius College while benefiting from the Jesuit college experience. Patricia Erickson, PhD, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Robert Klump, Director of the Raichle Pre-Law Center, are the academic coordinators between Canisius and Erie 1 BOCES Legal Academy.

Four of the high school students will be freshmen at Canisius for the upcoming 2016-2017 academic year.

WGRZ-TV Channel 2’s investigative reporter Steve Brown ’83 tells the story of Mohammed Ali’s visit to Canisius in 1968. Ali spoke at several colleges to make money after he was stripped of his heavyweight boxing title for refusing to be drafted for the Vietnam War.

Student Records and Financial Services, Human Resources Relocate

The Office of Student Records and Financial Services, located on the first floor of Bagen Hall, is undergoing a remodeling during the summer months.  The office will be reconfigured and expanded into the area currently occupied by the Human Resources Office.  In preparation for the work, both offices are being temporarily relocated.

The Office of Student Records and Financial Services will operate out of Old Main 100 and the Human Resources Office will operate out of Horan O’Donnell 001.  The newly remodeled Student Records and Financial Services Office is scheduled to reopen by the start of the fall semester.  The Human Resources Office will remain in Horan O’Donnell until their new space becomes available later this fall.

Access around the first floor of Bagen Hall will be affected by the construction.  Please use caution when walking around or adjacent to the work area.  Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

Center for Online Learning and Innovation

The FacTS Center has been redesigned as the Center for Online Learning and Innovation and is located in Old Main 404. With Leah MacVie as its director, the Center for Online Learning and Innovation supports two concrete efforts at the college:

First, it serves as a central point of contact for distance learning needs, coordinated departmental efforts for online learning, quality assurance and consistency in online courses, and online innovation endeavors.

Second, it encourages innovation across campus through technology and new processes, in teaching and learning and everyday work.

The Center for Online Learning and Innovation seeks to be recognized for providing outstanding faculty development experiences, coordinating online learning and service across the campus for the innovative use of technology.
