Canisius College honored the service milestones of more than 60 employees today in the Montante Cultural Center, during the college’s annual Celebration of Service. President John J. Hurley, Richard A. Wall, PhD, interim vice president for academic affairs, and more than 200 family members, friends and Canisius community members were in attendance. The event acknowledged faculty, staff and administrator retirements, and those who have reached their 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50-year service anniversaries.


Srs. Virginia and Loretta Young  received a standing ovation from the Canisius community and a hug from President Hurley in celebration of their combined 100 years of service to the college.

The ceremony began with an invocation by Susan A. Fischer, associate campus minister, and a welcome by Dr. Wall. President Hurley and Dr. Wall presented the citations.

Lauffenburger, PhD, professor of physics, retiree; Jerry L. Neuner, PhD, associate vice president for academic affairs, retiree; Kathy L. Peter, executive associate to the associate vice president for academic affairs, honored for 20 years of service; and Gregory K. Reeds, PhD, associate professor of kinesiology, celebrated 25 years of service.

Following the presentation of 20- and 25-year citations, Cantio Sacra performed several musical selections under the direction of Bradley Wingert.

This is the 12th year that the college has held the Celebration of Service. Employees who have reached five, 10 and 15 years of service are honored at the Employee Recognition Ceremony each fall.
