Shoot and Score Winner Katelyn Egan

Katelyn Egan is a sophomore from Rochester and the winner of two tickets to the Sabres’ final home game thanks to this entry in the Shoot and Score contest: “When I tell other people how small Canisius is, I don’t think they really know what I mean. Canisius is a small school, but it’s a close knit school and I think that’s what I like most about it. The fact that I can travel throughout campus and run into a friend of mine or a professor makes my experience at Canisius all the more personable. I may have come to college with a few of my close friends back from home; however, I value all the new friendships that I have made over these past two years.

“Canisius provides an atmosphere for students to experience new things and break out of their comfort zone with an array of clubs, organizations, events, and the opportunity to get involved around campus. I’ve always been told that college is some of the best years of your life. They’re right. I can honestly say that I can see some of these people that I have surrounded myself with as the some of the same faces in the crowd at my wedding and accompanying me on my future endeavors.

“When applying to Canisius, I loved the sound of small class sizes. Each and every one of my teachers is eager to get to know each of their students; thus, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout Canisius. I’m pursuing a career in education and it is so evident the professors here care about their students’ future success just based on their time and energy they invest in preparing them. And that’s not just true about the Education department. I believe my peers would also agree that their professors are dedicated to preparing them for their future careers as well as ensuring that they enjoy their time at Canisius. All and all, I am glad I chose the school I did.”

Katelyn, who’s majoring in Childhood and Special Education, won two tickets to the Sabres game versus the New York Islanders on April 26. Your last Sabres game of the regular season could be on us too. You can enter and win by submitting an example or story that best reflects the Canisius experience. It could be a short story about a student, professor, class, project or activity on or off campus. It could involve you or someone else. We want to hear about service projects, internships, clubs and people that go the extra mile and deserve recognition. Submissions can be made through Friday, April 19, at canisius.edu/studentsurge.

Students, faculty and staff can also purchase tickets at the discounted price of $25 each. Tickets for the final home game only are available in the Office of Campus Programming and Leadership Development in the Student Center.
